MASTEKTON v. RED STAR
The Masterton and Red Star teams met on the Showgrounds, on Saturday. The teams were as follow: Masterton Marchant, g Miller, Prendeville, O'Leary (2), Logan, Sellar, fiarry, Jenkins, Parton, MoKellar, Lyall, Duggan, Rose, Spaokman. nedl Star *— Williams,™! Walker, Wrigley, Wadbam, Darville, o*Connell, Welch, MoKenzie (2), Clarke (2),. Soorrar, Chamberlain, Fulton and Dixon. < Very little public interest was centred in the game, which proved very uninteresting. In the first spell Millar and Prendeville scored a ury each, while J. O'Leary kicked a penalty goal. At the end of the first spell the scores were:—« Masterton 9 Red Star 0 Pluy during the second ?pell was 'ip and down the ground,Tand good football was lacking on both sides. Miller scored two tries, while Prendßville, from a free kick, kicked a goal. V. Williams kicked a penalty goal for the Stars. Darville scored a try for the Stars in the second spell, but the referee, for some.'unknown reason, disallowed it. The game thus ended:—•

MASTEKTON SCHOOL v. CARTERTON SCHOOL.
Teams representing the Mastertou ami Carterton District High Schools met on the Sohoolgrouu.l, on Saturday, and after an uuintereating game the former team won by 14 points to 3 points. For the winners, Harriß (2), R. Kenall and R. Milne scored tries, one of Harris tries being converted by T. Meredith. P. Fairbrother soored u try for Carterton. Mr A. B. Charters was referee. The Maßtertou team intends journeying to Carterton tu play a return inatoh on August 18th.

Qreytowu beat Carterton, at Greytown, on Saturday, by 6 points to 5 Dointe.

DUNBDIN, July 2S. The match, Tainuaki v. Otfu-o, was played on the Caledonian Ground, to-day, in the presence of about, 8000 people. Th« ground was heavy, bat not very greasy. The" game was an interesting one to watch, but the local men, who had not even played a trial match, showed Jack of combination in attack, but put up great defence. The visiting backs were not so dangerous in attauk as was expeoted,. but probably some of the lire wns taken out of Mynotfc and Abbott by early injuries. Trewon, of the visiting team, had a rib broken, and Peter Ward took his place in live second spell. Ou the Otago sideMcDonald received a nasty kick in the face, asd Dougherty had a collar bono broken, and was not replaced. Taranaki, playing with a steady breezp, were ottacking nearly the whole of the first spoil, but thoy failed to gain a try. Hardgieitas, however, kicked a <>oal from a mark. As 'soun aa the second spell started, the local men equalised the score from a mark. After soaio livelj piny, the visitors appeared to tire, and for a time the local men .van right over them, two tries being put on. Taranaki th°n rallied, and from a pasß ! ng rush between Myuott, Cameron acd Abbott, the latter ran iu and Harduroaves placed a goal. It was a dying effort, and Otago again assuming the upper hand, put on another try. 'lhe game ending— Otago 12 Taranaki 8 Play was fast throughout with scarcely a dull minute.
Wanganui beat Rangitikei, oa Saturday, at Wanganui, by 11 points to 6.
RUGBY UNION
A meeting of the Management Committee of the Wairarapa Rugby Union was h«ld at Carterton, on Saturday eveniug. Present—Messrs A. B. Charters (chai'man), D. K. Logan, E. McKenzie, J. Nioboll, D. Udy, T. McMaater, A. fcf. Balfour, and G. W. Sellar, Hon. Secretary. •>j The protest of the Master too .luniors against the win of the Tuhirangi team in the Brat match, was considered. Tahirangi hart played several men who were defaulters to the Uuion, but evidence was brought to prove that the,money due to the Gladstone Club had been paid before the date of the match, although the Secretary of the Union had not been notified of the faot. A motion was moved that the protest be dismissed, and that the deposit of the Masterton Club be returned. An amendment that the protest be upheld was lost, acd the motion carried. Mr JLugan, on behalf of che Masterton Club, gave notice of appeal to the New Zealand Rugby Union. Mr Smallwood, referee in the Carterton-Red Star match, reported having ordered a Carterton player off. the field for striking at a Star ' player. The evidence of the player ordered off was heard, and that of the player allegedly struck at was read, and it wts dejided that the oase be dismissed. It wa* decided that if clubs in, arrear with their fees to the Union do not pay such arrears on or before Saturday, August 4th, members of those clubs defaulting will not be eligible for representative honours. It was decided to play the Junior representative iiatoh with Wellington on August 11th, at Wellington. Mr J. Nicboll was appointed manager of the team. The Union decided to pay the expenses of the Junior representatives-.
WAIRARAPA REPRESENTATIVETEAM.
The following [team has been chosen to represent the Wairarapa Rugby Union on the tour to Manawatu and Pull-baok, Darville, Star. Three - quarters, Prendeville, Mastorton; J. O'Leary, Maßterton; R. Crawley, Carterton. Five-eighth, P. O'Leary, MastertuQ. Half-back, D. K. Logan, Masterton. Wings, A. Gray und A. Ross, Mastertou. Forwards, Cadwallader, Masterton; C. MoKenzie, Stsr; S. Masou, Carterton; Wines, Greytown; Fulton, Star; Spaokmaa, Masterton; Henderson, Carterton. D. Thompson, Carterton, will go as extra baok, and Duggan, Masterton, as an extra forward, making 17 to travel altogether. The team bas been greatly altered sinoe the first choice of a few days ago, owing to several men being unable to go, viz., E. MoKenzie, P. Rogers, Wrigley, J. Workman, Jenkins, H. MoKenzie, F. Johnston. Any member who may find himself unable to make the trip is requested to oommuuioato at once with Mr G. W. Sellar, secretary of the Uniou. The team will leave by the G. 30 a.m. train, ou Wednesday next, August Ist, and will be under the charge of Mr G. W. Sellar. The Lower Valley members, Carterton and Greytown, will arrive in Masterton on Tuesday evening.
