NEW RAILWAY TO THE WAIRARAPA.
The subject of a new railway'to the, Wairarapa was raised- at the ordinary meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough Council on] Monday evening by Councillor G. Morris-Mason. In accordance with a notice of motion he moved as follows:—"That a deputation of the Hutt Borough Councillors and as many of the public aa can attend wait upon the Minister for Railways to ask him to favourably consider the construction of a line of railway to the eastern side of the valley via the Wainui to Wairarapa; also that the members of Wairarapa, Hawke's Bay and Hutt and Petone, and Mayors of the various boroughs interested be asked to attend, also] the chairmen of county councils and Chamber of Commerce, Wellington." The motion waa seconded by Councillor Ward, and supported Dy Councillor ' Yerex. The Mayor, Mr T. W. M'DoDald, said he believed that if the scheme [eventuated it would be a blessing to the whole of the district from Wellington to tde Wairarapa. They could not carry a scheme like that in a year or two, but if they tried they would bring it about in time. The motion on being put to the meeting was carried unanimously.
