MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

WOKKS COMMITTEE. The ordinary meeting of i the Works Committee of the Masterton Borough Council was held last evening. The Mayor presided and there were also present—Cra J. Elliott, F. W. Temple, T. G. Hoar, W. Morris, E G» Eton, J. C. Ewington, E. Feist, and E, McEwen. « The Committee decided that legal opinion be obtained as to; whether the Council had power to recover from the ratepayers concerned half the cost of making footpaths ,iu any street in the borough after having the work done out of the loan money. An application was reoeived from Messrs J. Elfiott, J, Haljigen, and G. Smith, to have the gas main ex tended from Worksop Road along Colombo Road, as far :as the Makora Bridge. The matter was referred to the Gas Manager to report. Mr J. Montgomery wrote apply ing for the lease of a paddock at the abattoir. The af plication was granted. Accounts amounting to £B4B Is 2d were passed for payment.
