THE NORTHERN APPROACH.
AGAIN BEFORE THE COUNTY
COUNCIL,
At the meeting of the Masterton County Couuoil yesterday a letter was received from the Town Clerk with reference to the Northern approaob, pointing out that the construction placed on his letter of the 30th ult was not warranted by the facta. The Borough Couuoil agreed to the arrangement arrived at by the delegates when the matter was first gone into, viz.:— That the County and Borough Engineers should together furnish a report with estimates for tbut very necessary work, and the Borough Engineer was instructed accordingly, but could not met any time fixed by
tise County Engineer for doing the * required work. The Borough Council was still willing that the two Engineers should prepare a soheme for improving the approach from Laasdowne. The objection to the Borough Engineer alone being employed was. that the work being wholly within the territory of tho County Council, it would be establishing a bad precedent to permit the Eugiueer of any other body to do the work. The letter oonclurted by asking whether the County Council would give directions to have the matter gone into by both Engineers, as previously arranged. On the motion of Cr Toogood it was decided that the letter be acknowledged and the Clerk instructed to intimate that the Council had no intention of considering the question until some definite financial arrangement in the matter was laid before the Council.
