Congressman Joseph Gonlden, who is engaged in the insurance business, testified before the United States House of UepresentatJves Committee on insuranoe regulations that it was well known a eenatorship for New York was worth anything from between £IO,OOO to £20,000 sterling yearly. The money emanated largely from insurance companies. He added tbat the Pennsylvania Mutual Life Company was coerced into giving £2,000 sterling to the general election fund. NATAL THE NATIVE DISTURBANCE. Received May 23, 8.30 a.m. PIETERMARITZBURG, May 22. Major-General Sir Henry Hildyard, on the staff commanding tbe troops in South Africa, is visiting Zululand studying the operations against the rebel natives. His visit is considered to be an indication of the probability of the employment of British troops. Maritzburg natives have been discovered making assegais.
