MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
_ « WORKS COMMITTEE. • A meeting of the Works Committee of , the Masterton Borough Council was held last evening. The Mayor presided, and there were also present—Crs J. H. Pauling, F. W. .Temple, E. G. Eton, J. U. Ewington, E, McEwen and W. Morris. An apology for absenoe was received from Cr Hoar. The report of the Engineer in connection with the loan sohedqle w#s cousidered. Regarding the proposed shed to be erected at the gasworks for the purpose of storing asphalting material, the Council, before deciding on anythipg definite, resolved to visit the locality. The Engineer wai instructed to submit an estimate of the cost of a machine for mixing asphalt. The work of culverting, clearing and erecting two bridges over the Makora Stream, to cost £I,OOO, was authorised to be carried out at once. It was decided to visit Renall Street to arrange as to the laying down culverts in the street. The Engineer was instructed to prepare plans and specifications for the work of grading Chapel Street from Cole Street to the Fish Ponds; also, gravelling the road and forming paths and culverts near the Fish Ponds. This is estimated to oost £285. It was decided'to go on with the work of setting back the fencing and filling up the road in- Johnston Street near Messrs Hirschberg's and Johnston's at a oost of £l5O. The forming and gravelling of Churoh Street (£100) was also authorised to be proceeded with. Tenders are to be called in England lor the supply of 75 tons of 3-inch and 4-inoh water mains and 86 tons of 3-inoh, 4-inoh and 6-inch gas mains for the extension of the' water and gas along various streets in the Borough. On the recommendation of the Engineer it was decided to engage the County Council's grader in connection with the formatiou*and gravelling of Vivian Street. It was resolved to proceed with the Ngaumatawa Road construction (£75), and Colombo Road formation (£]so) at once. It was deoided to call tendeiß for the work in Junction Road, amounting to £l2O. Preliminary steps were reported to have been taken in connection with the widening of Gross Street (£1,500). It was decided to call tenders for the work of Hessey Street extension (£2so^. Tenders are to be called and plans and specifications submitted for publio baths and ornamental waters in the Park (£500). Ifc was decided to take pteps in connection with making arrangements with the owners for the extension of Wrigley Street and the widening of Pine Street, Herbert Street, Uookburn Street and Kuripuni Street, and other streets mentioned in the loan schedule, whioh are to be extended or widened. Further consideration of the report, lnoluding that portion pertaining to road machinery, was deferred.
