PONGAROA.
(From Our Own Correspondent. PONGAROA, Monday. A farewell sooial is to be tendered to the Rev. D. 0. Hampton H the Town Hall, on May 29th. Mr Hampton ia to take charge of the Taihape diatriut.' It ia expected that his successor will be appointed at an early date. Mr H. R. Smith has opened a general store opposite the Pongaroa butter factory. The annual concert in connection with the local school will take place shortly. The Pongaroa butter factory ' closed for the season to-day. Mr W. R. Cole is building a large and up-tO'date store here. The Pongaroa v Dramatic Club staged a drama, entitled "For England's vilory," in the local Town Hall, on Saturday. There was a good attendance of the public. Mr Perfeot, of Dannevirke has commenced business in the township as a blacksmith. It is stated that the County Council intend to puichase a roadgraaer in the spring. An effort is being made to have a constable stationed in this district, and alao to obtain sittings uf the S.M. Court here.
