HASTWELLS.

(From Our Own Correspondent). HAST WELLS, Saturday. The new sawmill that is being erected by Mr F. A. Sheath on his property is now nearing completion and will shortly Btart work. Most of the timber to cut is heart of rimu and totara, and there is olose on 3,000 acres to be cut out. When fairly going this will be a splendid asset to the owner who deserves support for his progressive spirit. It will also be the means of providing employment for a number of men who would otherwise be idle during the winter months. ; The creamery is only working every other day and will probably close down next week. During the season just ended the test has been very good, and the supply throughout the season has been up to the usual average. The majority of suppliers are perfectly satisfied with their returns. Mr Halberg is busy enlarging his residence, which, when oompleted, will be one of the best in the district. Most of the farmers here have had the misfortune to get the blight in their potato orops. There are however a few potato orops who were fortunate to escape. Ibis necessary article of food is therefore at a premium. The school closed yesterday for the mid-winter hulidays. We are not experiencing any trouble with our oows, as they are on the average a healthy lot in this district. There are plenty, of calves, and farmers are selling at a very good price. 4
