BRITAIN AND TURKEY.
THE TROUBLE IN EYGPT. LONDON, May 11. Fifteen British warships are stationed at Port Said iu readiness no patrol the Suez Canal when the ultimatum issued by Britain to Turkey expires. 1 The Constantinople oorresnondent of the Daily Telegraph reports that it is not believed the British will force a passage through the Daidanellos, though it is expooted that she will seize Turkish territory. The Porte's indifference, adds the correspondent, is assumed in order to impress the public that the subjeot is of. little importance, if a concession is deemed absolutely neoessary.
Sir Nicholas O'Conor, British Minister at Constantinople has sternly rejected the overtures of Tewflk Pasha, Minister of Foreign Affairs, insisting on absolute compliance with the British demands.
THE GRAND VIZIER SUBMITS SLIGHTLY MODIFIED PROPOSALS. WHICH ARE REJECTED. Received May 13, 10.40 a.m. CONSTANTNOPLE, May 12. The Grand Vizier submitted slightly modified proposals, but Sir Nicholas O'Conor replied that the British Government demands the absolute minimum. Tbe ultimatum expires at midnight ou Sunday. REPORTED AGREEMENT TO BRITAIN'S DEMANDS. Received May 14, 1.15 a.m. LOjnDON, May 13. Renter states that the Porte's agreement with the British demand has been handed to the Embassy at Constantinople. Turkey will evacuate Tabah and the rest of the Egyptian territory. . The Foreign Office does not deny the statement, but merely admits that there are signs of a conciliatory attitude.
