COLONIAL BANK AFFAIRS.
DUNEDIN, April 30. The Colonial Bank affairs oropped up'again at the Chamber sittings, before Justice Oooper, wheu Viotor Braund, of Wellington, appeared in person to ask for an order to further postpone the destruction of the books and papers of the Colonial Bank. Braund said that he bad commenced an aotirn in Wellington against the' Eon. G. McLean and P. 0. Neil, directors of the defunct bank, to recover damages for alleged misrepresentation in the directors' reports and balanoe sheets, and in the speeches of Hon. G. McLean as obairman of direotors. Braund went on to say that ho was not aoting in a vindictive spirit, but His Honor asked him to confine himself to showing that the Court had power to make the order, and, secondly, that it should be made. Braund addressed the Court at length, quoting Justice Williams' judgment. Justice Cooper several times expressed regret that Braund had not the assistance of counsel. J. P. M. Fraser replied briefly on behalf of the liquidators, and His Honor then gave his deoision. He declined to make an order to extend the time for keeping the books until Bound's action came on, but directed the Official Assignee, as liquidator, to retain the books and papers till May 3rd. If Braund in the meautime filed an application to review the present proceedings before Justices Edwards and Cooper, the Assignee is to keep the books until May 10th, when the fate of that application, if made, would be known.
