FOOTBALL.
The principal alteration in the Rugby rules which come into force this season are as follow:—A goal from a mark, 3 points; a mark must be heel-marked when made; when a player falls oa the ground with the ball in his possession, he must immediately part, with it; touch judges nos to indicate with their flags when assisting at .kicks at goal ; a player throwing in the ball from touch may not play the ball himself until it has been 'played by another player (no "bouncing in"); a wing forward does not become part of the by merely placing his band on it; an off-side player is placed oa-sidu when an opponent has run 6yds (in any direction) with the bail; in the case,of a free Kick for a player causing unnecessary loss of time when the ball is in touch, such kick shall be taken at a point 10yds from the touch line and opf osite to the place where the ball went into touch. MASTERTON v. CARTERTON. A teum representing Masterton journeyed to Carterton on Saturday, and defeated the home team by 11 pointß to 3 points. For Masterton J. O'Leary scored a try which he converted. He also kicked a goal frum a mark. Logan also fcoored a try for Masterton. Johnatone scored a cry for Carterton. RED ST A If v. ALBION. A match was played on the Park Oval, on Saturday, between teams representing the Albion and Red Star Clubs. 'lhe latter team had the best of the came all through, and eventually won by 12 points to nil in the first spell Hcorrar scored a try f6r the winners, and R. Hunt kicked n goal from a mark, and in the second spell Wrigley scored two good tries from passing rushes inaugurated by O'Connell. Mr T. G. ' Hoar was referee. .RED STAR JUNIORS v. MASTERTON JUNIORS. v J! A match between the above teams ■was played on the Park practice ground, on Saturday, and resulted in a win for Masterton by 8 points to 6. OLD BOYS v. SCHOOL. The above match was played on the Schoolground, oa Saturday, and jewUecl in a win for she Old Boys
by 10 points to 3. Id tbe first spell the School had slightly the best of the play, and from a loose rush, in whioh Meredith, Renall and Rhodes took part, the latter was enabled to score near the corner flag. The try was not converted. The Old Boys livened up in the second spell and several times had their opponents busily defending their line. From iome loose forward play Phillips got possession and scored. Waddington converted with a good kiok. Soon after another forward rash enabled Cole to ccoss the line, and Phillips converted.
