BOSTOCK AND WOMBWELL.

4 i . * ' v CIRCUS AND MENAGERIE. - Boatock and -Wombwell's circus and, menagerie gave its farewell berformapces in Masterton yesterday afternoon and evening. On both occasions .there was a large audience present. At the matinee the audience was composed largely of children, who ail appeared to thoroughly enjoy the various aots. The same artists appeared as on the first night, but tbe majority of them introduced new items into their aots. The evening performance was equally interesting, and the entertainment contains much to recommand it. Though billed as'a circus it is scarcely what is 'usually ; understood by that term. . There is an absence of anything in the shape of equestrian feats, and horses are not-introduced into the programme -at .ell. This is, however, amply compensated for by a long list of novelties of an exceptionally clever description, not one of which can be spoken of otherwise tban in terms of the highest praise. There is no arena, but a space is, reserved in the centre of the tent, and part of this is occupied by a stage, on whiah most of the performances are given. ' The management is ' admirable. The most wonderful part of a wonderful performance was, however,- given by tbe Lukisbima troupe of Japanese, six in number. Absolutely without fear, 1 they, with marvellous dexterity and great neatness, do balancing, contortion and acrobatic feats, which are surprisingly olever.
