MOST WONDERFUL HOSPITAL
'THE FINEST IN THE WORLD. Dr. Ott, the King'a Marienbad physician, who visited the London Hospital, last mouth, declared that, although not so large as Vienua'a largest hospital, it was the most wonderfully equipped institution of the bind he had ever seen. The feature whioh most impressed Dr. Ott was the lac 1 ; that the London is the most Belf-ooutained hospital in the world. After occupying nearly nine yearß and invovlink an expenditure of almost half a million pounds, the rebuilding > of the hospital iB now complete. - A press representative gathered some interesting DETAILS OF THE UKEAT WORK which has been accomplished. The reconstruction was begun in 1897 on a promise or £5,000 a year from th& Kiug'a Hospital Fund if the trustees would spend £IOO,OOO on improvements. A'total of £410,000 has been actually disbursed, and as there is only about £IO,OOO more to be paid out, the London Hospital starts on its new career almost free from debt. Perhaps the most remarkablej feature cf the alterations is the fact that not one of the 933 beds has been closed during the reconstruction. Recently one thousand six hundred and sixty out-patients were reoeived in the new department. The record number is 1,666. Thes9 figures do not molude such oases as outs, abrasions and minor acoidents, whioh are treated in the casualty ward. The new Nurses' Home accommodates 273 women. One thousand dinners are daily served from theremodelled kitchen to patients and porters alone. If the meal is more than three minutes late the kitchen staff are SEVERELY REPRIMANDED. The equipment of the new kitohen coat £2,300. There are now no fewer than thirteen Finsen lamps, one of whioh was supplied by Queen Alexandra, and the "Ray" department is the besfcjl equipped in the world. There are thirteen operating theatres, and an elaborate electrical plant, which manufactures every kind of medicine, ointment, pills and even iozengea on the premises. Everything, in fact is made in the building, with the exception of electric light, which ia supplied on very generous terms by the Borough of Stepney. < —-■■'
