RAILWAY ACCIDENTS.
A FIREMAN KILLED AT WAINGAWA BKIDIiE. Information was received in Masterton last evening tbat a fireman named Arthur Beal had been killed while crossing the Waingawa railway bridge on the 5.30 o'oloofc train from Masterton. From particulars available it appears that Beal, who is stationed at Gross' Creek, came to Masterton on the 5.10 p.m. train and returned again for Cross' Creek on the 5.30 train to Wellington. There were two engines on the train, and Beal was fireman on the second one. When crossing the Waingawa railway bridge Beal was observed fall to from the engine into the river below. When picked up Beal was found to be dead, Deceased was doing something to gtlae engine, and it is surmised tbat bis head oame in contact with the bridge. Death was instantaneous. Deceased was about 2-1 yeais of age, and his parents reside at New Plymouth. He has a brother, in the employ A. Sfcempa, residing at Carterton. The body was taken to Carterton, where an inquest will probably be held. A CHILD RUN OVER BY A TBAIN. By Telegraph—Press Association. NELSON. April 25. The ten year-old sou of Mr F. 0. Batchelor was killed at Motueka *his evening. He fell from the express train, the wheels of which passed over him.
