DR DOWIE, THE "MODERN ELIJAH."
Reoeived April 6, 9.5 a.m. NEW YORK, April 5. Mrs Dowie declares that for years Dr Dowie has insisted on hearing confessions, talked to attractive women about polygamy, and tried to set her aside. The overseers of Zion City possess a record of many scandals. DOWIE RETURNING TO CHICAGO. Received April 7, 12.4 a.m. NEW YORK, April 6. Dowie returns jo Chicago to challenge the right of his flock to depose him. A LO'NG-PENDING CASE SETTLED. INVEROARGILL, April 6. This morning a cable message was received by the solicitors for the Suttons in the contest with Dr Dowiei, the "Modern Elijah," over the will of the late Frederick Sutton, farmer, of Thorn bury, stating that Dowie's appeal had been dismissed, and the decision of the Lower Court in their favour upheld. This will probarly end the litigation, which has lasted for four years, and will vest the estate, amounting to between twelve and fourteen thousand pounds, in the relatives of deceased. * As Dowie has been ordered to pay costs, there should be a substantial sum for the family. The whole estate is praotically in cash.
