BOILER EXPLOSION.
i A MILL WRECKED. i —. ONE MAN KILLED. THREE INJURED. / HOKITIKA, April 5. A bad accident happened at Kumara Junction at ten o'clock this morning, when a boiler in tbe Wilson Company s mill is said to have blown to pieces, wrecking the mill. A sawyer named Bull, who lately worked in Hokitika, and is a married man with a wife and six children, was killed on the spot. Lbcompte, another employee, was very seriously injured, ani is not expected to live. A younger brother of Mr Wilson, proprietor of the mill, has one of his legs broken in two places, and has received internal injuries. Batey, an engine-driver, is al3o seriously injured. i Doctors McKay and Mandle are on the spot attending to the men. who are being removed to the Kumara Hospital. LATER PARTICULARS. DEATH OF ONE OF THE INJURED MEN. Leoompte died ou the way to the Hospital. Ernest Wilson's case is serious. Batey is expected to reooVer. Tbe inquest openß to-night, but will be adjourned to await the arrival of the Government Inspector of Machinery. WILSON SUCCUMBS. GREY MOUTH, AprilS. 'Ebe news of tbe fatal boiler explosion at Wilson and Co.'s mill, at Kumara Junction, cast quite a gloom over the town, the unfortunate men being well-known here. Word was received at 9 o'clock tonight that Wilson bad snocumbed to his injuries, and that the lad Batey was in a critical condition. Ziegler, who escaped with slight injuries, arrived in town this afternoon, aud states that he cannot account for tbe acoident.
