REV. D. J. MURRAY'S DEPARTURE.

ARRANGEMENTS FOR A FAREWELL FUNCTION.

A meeting, convened by the Mayor, was held, last evening, in the Masterton Borough Council Chambers, to consider what steps should be taken to make a public farewell to the Rer. D. J. Murray, who will leave Masterton for the Mornington Circuit, on Anril 12th. The Mayor presided, and there were aIBO present:—Messrs R. Brown, W. H. Jaokaon, E. Feist, J. Elliott, S. R. Edwards, C. E. Daniel], W. Gillespie, D. MoUregor, jar., A, Hathaway, H. O'Leary, A. Henderson, A. Donald and A. E. Green. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs A. W. Hogg, M.H.R., T. Duncan, E. G. Eton and J. ,0. Ewington. The Mayor stated that he had called the citizens together to make arrangements to bid farewell to the Rev. D. J. Murray, a gentleman who was in every respeot a "white man," and one who always did his duty whether in or out of the Church —in fact he was a typical Christian, said the Major. He felt sure he was voicing the sentiments of all, when he said they were about to lose a man who would be missed from Masterton, and one who was always willing to assist others. He meant the farewell to bo a "right royal one," and' he thought an illuminated address and a purse of sovereigns would be a fitting testimonial. He would like to see those prsoutations come from the citizens of Masterton independent of any private body. He moved that the presentation take the form of an illuminated address and a purae of sovereigns. Mr Jackson, in seconding the motion, regretted Mr Murray's departure. Mr Murray had lived a life outside his Church, which should be difficult for many of them to copy. "If he is a typical Wesleyan," concluded Mr Jackson, "it's a pity we are not all Wesleyans." The mution was unanimously car ried. All those preseut, including those from whom apologies had been received, were appointed a committee with power to acid to their number, to make the necessary arrangements for the farewell funotion, which it is understood, will take place ia tb& Town' Hail, a few days prior to Mr Murray's departure. Mr W. M. Easthope was appointed Secretary, , and Mr R. Brown Treasurer. Messrs Brown, Danieil, Jaokson and Feist, were appointed a oommittee to draft the address-,- and tho meeting then closed.
