SMART WORK BY THE FIRE BRIGADE.
(To the Editor). Sir, —Most of our townspeople are undoubtedly unaware of the merits of our local Are fighters, and as their work is principally done in the still hours of the night the public do not haee a chance to extend to our Bremen the credit they deserve. This morning's Are, for instance. Having seen the reflection in the d irection of Kuripuni, I immediately drove towards it at a smart trot, and was passing the gasworks when the alarm was sounded. Arrived at the Are I timed the arrival of the Brigade, and. was agreeably surprised to see them turn up in less than seven minutes. Now, Sir, considering that I was io full trot when the firemen got the alarm, and that they must turn out, dress, harness their horses, and arrive at a fire one and threequarter miles away, .with heavy horses, just seven minutes after I did, is indeed a very smart performance, and ought to be recognized.— I am, eto., CITIZEN. .Masterton, March 18th.
