WILLIAM GILLESPIE, Returning Officer. -. MASTERTON LICENSING ELECTION. TO THE ELECTORS. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN.-I offer my services for the honour of repreeenting you on the Masterton Licensing Committte. Should I be returned I intend to see that a proper supervision of the Trade is exercistd, and to carefully study the interests of the public with respect to accommodation for travellers. I shall support the granting of permits to gatherings in the Public Park and Show Grounds as long as there is no abuse of such a privilege. Past experiences of such grants do not justify the Licensing Committee in withdrawing them. The result of the last poll showed that the elucters supported this view. 1 consider the present hour of closing—eleven o'clock—to be one most Euited to the requirements of the travelling public. Yours, etc. J. fl. PAULING. LICENSING ELECTION. THE ELECTORS.-Ladies and Gentlemen : I am a Candidate for a seat on the Masterton Licensing Bench in the Independent interest. I do not think it possible fdr a person nominated either by the Trade or the Prohibitionists to take an unbiassed view of Licensing matters. If returned, I shall use my best efforts to see the Licensing Laws administered in a judicial manner. lam, etc., ARTHUR H. VILE. LICENSING ELECTION. TO THE ELECTORS. • ADIES AND GENTLEMEN. -I am a J candidate for a seat on the Masterton Licensing Committee, and if elected shall do my best to have the law administered without fear or favour. I believe in 10 o'clock clos.ng and prohibiting the sale of intoxicating liquor on the Park Oval. Tour's faithfully, JOHN CROSS. 10th March, 190G, Masterton. MASTERTON LICENSING ELECTION. "I HAVE consented to nomination for a seat on the new Committee. As a member of the retiring Committee I have always opposed the extension of one hour from ten to eleven o'clock for closing time, and. if elected shall do so again. As to special permits, it has been the practice of the late Committee to grant all applications to which the police did not obieot; this I think is wrong. The Committee should dothe work for whioh it is elected, and not shelter itself behind the police reports. Holding these opinions, I wa» in a minority on the late Committee, and I understand that my action does not meet with the approval of the publican or "Moderate" paxty. I cannot help that, but oiler my services to the people, not the publicans. While not anxious for re-election, if returned I shall seek to do the work in the spirit of the Licensing Act. CHAS. E. DAMELL,
