THE PREMIER.
ROIORUA, March 11. The Premier attended a banquet last night. He spoke for nearly two hours. and dwelled at ength on the polioy, of the Imperial Government. Ha criticised severely the action of Parliament in uot annexing the Islands of the Paoiflc. He gave a peroration on the loyalty of New Zealanders, and referred to the majority obtained at tbo last election, and the beneficial Acts pa3sed by his Government. He was frequently applauded. The Native Minister, Hon. J. Carroll, iu responuding to the toast of "The Native Race," urged that they should receive more attention, and should be raised to a higher plane, lie had found no more loyal people in the colony to-day. The Premier unveiled a monument to the late chief Te Keepa at Wbakarewarewa, and paid a high tri - bute to the late chief and the Maoris as a raoe. The Maoris gave a great reception to the Premier. In the afternoon the Premier unveiled a monument at Ohinemutu, erected in memory of the late chief Petera. The Premier promised the Maoris that he would lay before the Cabinet the matter of allowing them to fish in the lakes without paying.
