MASTERTON RACING CLUB.
MEETING OF STEWARDS,
A speoial meeting of Stewards of the Masterton Olub waa held on Saturday for the purpose of receiving a deputation from the Wairarapa and East Const P. and A. Sooiety to oonsider the question of avoiding, if possible, the clashing of dates of the meetings of the fiaoing Olub and the Wairarapn Show in October next. The Stewards present were —Messrs ! C. F. Vallauoe (in the chair), J. Cress, D. Caselberg, R. Buiok, J. lorns, A. G. Pilmer, C. JB. Smith D MuLaoblan„ A. J. Welch, C. A. Pownall, and W. Piatt. Mr H. K. Bunny attended on behalf of the P. and a. Sooiety, and stated that many of the trades-people of Carterton had expressed their willingness to close for a half-day on the last Wednesday and Thursday in October, the dates for the races and Show, if Masterton tradespeople would do the same. Mr Pownall stated that he had interviewed some of the Masterton tradespeople, wno were all opposed to closing their shops for two afternoons in one week. The matter was fully discussed, and on the motion of Mr Pownall, seconded by Mr MoLachlan, ifc was decided that the Racing Olub should adhere to the dates chosen by tfaera for their race meeting, viz., October 25th and 26th, 1906, and that a joint deputation from the Masterton Racing Olub and the Wairarapa P. and A. Society wait on the Holidays Committee of the Wairarapa Employers' Association and ask that the shops in Masterton close for half a day on both Wed nesday and Thursday on the last week in October, 1906. The Committee from the Racing Club will consist of Messrs Vallance,Cress and Pownall. Two new members were elected. It was resolved to allow the custodian to judge at coursing meetings in the Masterton and Wairarapa eleotoral districts. The Secretary was instructed to have the gate between the grandstand and the outside enolosure kept locked during race meetings. it was decided to hold a meeting of the Stewards on the morning of the first day of the races at 9 o'olook. At a meeting of the Ground Committee, held subsequently, Messrs Welch, Piatt and MoLachlan were authorised to have the new inside training track ploughed and sown down in grass. The Secretary was instructed to write to the Wellington Racing Club and in ike enquiries as to the class and quantity of seed they had sown on their racing traok.
