Recieved March 8, 10.10 p.m. LONDON, March 8. The Treasury allotted £IO,OOO for the British Government's exhibits, «t the Christchurch Exhibition, the New Zealand Government to defray the cost of transport. Sir Charles Watson is arranging for exhibits on behalf of the Board of Trade. Sir Isadore Spielmann is arranging for art exhibits, and both are co-operat-ing with the High Commissioner (the Hon. W, P. Reeves) who anticipates a splendid collection, inoluding many exhibits shown at the St. Louis World's Exhibition.

APATHY OP THE GOVERNMENT CONDEMNED.

PALMERSTON N„ Maroh 8. At a meeting of delegates of lucal bodies, held here to-day, it was decided to book a large space and to organise a district exhibit for the New Zealand Exhibition. Several speakers referred in terms of stroug disapproval to the apaihy of the Government in regard to giving a lead in the matter, and the lack of grip and enthusiasm of those entrusted with the carrying out of details. The opinion was expressed that more life and energy should be imparted into the Exhibition organisation if the thing is to be as complete a success as oculd be wished. Local bodies here are to be waited upon by delegates of the Exhibition Executive and asked to contribute pro rata towards the expenses to the amount of £3OO. It was pointed out that the Government had, as yet, made no pronouncement as to whether Exhibition goods would be oarried on railways free, although this information was awaited by the Executive Committees in all parts of the oolony. speaker said it would be better for the Government to give facilities for exhibitors to make the show a success than to irake good a subsequent de floit. The opinion was, also, voiced that aa the reputation of the oolony was now at stake 07er the Exhibition, it devolved upon every patriotic citizen and settler to lend a helping hand to make it a success.
