Seddon is stated to be « relative of the Now Zealand Premier. The searoh for oil is to b» again resumed and more energetically proceeded with than ever at Kotuku, in the Greymouth district, says,the Westport Times. A little prospecting has been continued all along, but lately a considerable amount has bean paid into Court for rent oa oil leases. An expert is at present working, and another is expected in few days. The Govo-ment is likely to aid in the development, and Dr bell, who paid an hour's visit to the looality.is to report. The Auckland H s erald's Cook Island correspondent states that from Government statistics made up to the end of 1905 it would appear that the liquor and wines imported into the Cook Islands w«re not half the quantity of the previous year, and it may be noticed that in • the year 1904 there was not half tbe quantity imported as from 1903. The value of claret imported during 1905 was £BO, about three-parts of the total import of wines and spirits for the year.
