The damp heat on Sunday gave a great stimulus to the potato blight in the Canterbury district, and in some plaoes, according to fbe Preos, it is spreading so fast that its advance is clearly visible between morning and evening. The condition of the crop is givinc cause for great .uneasiness on the part-ot growers. At the Auckland Police Court, on Eriday. a married woman was charged with being on licensed cremises on a recent Sunday. She proved that her child was nearly in a dying condition at the time, and she went into the hotel to get brandy which tho medical evidence showed would have done the child good. Tho Sub-inspector (Mr Black) did not press for a penalty, but pointed out the danger in establishing a precedent if the case were let go by without a conviction. The Magistrate (Mr Dwyer, S.M.), in accepting the defendant's statpment as correct, said be would record a conviction, but would not impose a penalty in view of the circumstancoes. If be had thought that it was a bogus story he would not have let it pass, but would have inflicted a heavy penalty. HIS EXPERIENCE. Mr A. T. Benle, of Beale Bros-. Oakey, (Q.), aaya: " I can recommend Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and Diarrhoea Bemedy to all troubled with diarrhoea or bowel complaints, for I have used it for these complaints myself and wa3 cured. Have Dersuaded my friends to give it a trial, andin every instance a cure was effected," For sale by T. G. Mason. Masterton - awt.
