The Rome correspondent of the Daily Chronicle reports that Don Jaime, the eldest son of Don Carlos, the Bourbon claimant to the throne of Spain, was received iu audience by the Pope, and protested against King Alfonso's alliance with a Princess of a Protestant Hou3e.. His Holiness replied that bis assent was conditionally possible upon the bride's spontaneous abjuration of Protestantism, which sten wbb a private affair of conscience. Beyond this the Vatican did not intend to, | intervene. |
