EKETAHUNA NEWS.

(From Our Own Correspondent) EKETAHUNA, February 10. Mr Arthur Power had a narrow edcape from serious injury this morning while working on Mr B. Marenzie's new premtaes. He, with two other workmen, was raising, portion of a staircase to a top storey when the stays gave way. Mr Power was given scant warning of the impending dunger, and only missed being crushed under the falling staircase by a few inahes. He, however, received several painful cuts about the face and nose at the time, also spraining bis wrist. At the time of writing the weather is anything Ibut promising for the camp of the Eketahuna Mounted Rifles, which was to' have been struok this afternoon. The company will probably take up its quarters in the Public Hall for the evening, and go under canvas to-morrow. Very unusual weather for this period of the year has been experienced during the last twenty-four hours, and most of the streams and rivera are greatly swollen by the continuous rain. The.settlers Of Nireaha and Stirling some two or throe years baok started a co-operative store nt. Nireaha, which, since its inauguration, bas well served its purpose. At the annual meeting of shareholders, held this week, the manager, Mr F. H. Dowden, stated that the turnover for the past year amounted to £2,448 3s 4d, and after paying five per cent, on paid-up capital, one shilling and threepence in the pound to shareholders and seveupence halfpenny to non-shareholders, there would bo a balance of £IOO for the reserve fund. Messrs W. Mason, R. A. Charles, and 0. Nordell were elected directors. The bank book submitted at the monthly meeting of the . Eketahuna County Council thb afternoon showed:—County Fund, dr., £1,287 15s 6d; Government Loan Account, or., £2O 19s lOd; Parkville Loan Account, or., £SO. Accounts amounting to £279 were passed for payment. The new bridge connecting Hamua with the Rongomai Valley is expected to be completed at an early date.
