(Christian IX , of Danmitrk, was boru on April Bth, 1818. Ho was tile fourth son of DukeWillielm, of Siesvig-Llolstein. On August 2(stli, 1842, he ■ married Louise, daughter of Landtrrave Wi 1 hoim of HesseCassel. 110 had t;ix children, the eldest of whom is Queen Alexandra, of England. The late King of Denmark held bis usual audience in the,morning, when he was cheerful, but early in the afternoon he was indisposed and retired to his room. His daughter, the Princess Marie suddenly saw that her father was dying and summoned her mother, tives, and two physicians. The end was peaceful,, aud the symptoms were those of heart failure. Universal regret is expressed throughout Europe. Many messages of con dolence have been reoeived. The Crown Prinoe Frederick was proclaimed King, to-day, under the' title of King Frederick VIII. (The new king was born on June 3rd, 1843, and is now 63 years old. In 1869 he married Prinoess Louisa,• daughter of King Karl the Fifteenth of Rwedeln nd Norway, aud has eight children. His eldest sou and Heir Apparent is Priuce Christian, born on September 2<tth, 1870).
