JUDGMENT RESERVED. INVERCARGILL, Jan. 25. This morningi Mr Adams, for the No - license Party, addressed the Gtjurt, contending that even admitting that the Court disallowed the votes scrutinised, respondents must suoceed if the Court agreed with his contention that abseut voters' permits and unsealed papers should not be treated as suggested by petitioners—that is, added to the total votes recorded. Judgment was reserved till Wednesday next. It is stated that a movement will shortly be set on foot to establish a preferential trade league in New Zealand. A young man was fined 20s at Blenheim for having attempted to kiss the proprietress of the restaurant. Daring the affair complainant slapped him in the face, and knocked him down. While farm labour is reported to be very scarce in the North Island, it is stated that workmen of this class are unable to obtain work in Otago. Last week one man walked from Inreroargill to Oamaru in search of work. A Greymouth correspondent states—"The timber and coal industries are at, present very brisk. The railway to Ross will, tap a number of sawmills. Tbe banks have lately purchased a considerable quantity of gold." During their eight months' tour of the colony, West's Pictures and the Brescians netted something like £14,000. Tbe sum of £650 was taken at Danediu for the four nights and matinea season last week. It is expected to refloat the Addenda either to-day or to-morrow. The contractor has all arraigements for the re-launching complete, and all that is wanting is favourable weather. It is proposed to hold a ceremonial in connection with the re-launching. Private advices received in Palmeraton convey the news of the death in Manila of Mrs Frank Moffett. Deceased was better known as Miss Flo Williams, and appeared in Masterfcon about two years ago, uuder Mr P. R. Dix's management, as one of the "Williams Quartette." The Dunedin correspondent of the Evening Post states that steps are being taken for the formation locally of a syndicate for the purchase and disposal of the gold product of the Otago dredge. The movement is supported, by the Otago and Southland Gold-mining Industrial Union of Employers.
