(From Our Own Correspondent.) EKETAHUNA, January 23. The opening of the Vicarage in connection with the Anglican Church, took place, on Saturday, under the most favourable conditions. People were present from all portions of the district, wbiist the township was well represented. After the house had been inspected, and refreshments partaken of, the Rev. Kitcat went into detail regarding the cost of construction of the building, how it was met, and ended by thanking those who had generously aided in providing him with such a splendid home. Shurt speeches were also made by the Bishop of Wellington, Messrs A. H. Herbert (Chairman of the Building Committee), Hare (Supervisor of the and J. J. Mead (Contractor). During the afternoon several selections were played by the Eketahuna Brass Band. On Sunday morning the Bishop of Wellington held a confirmation service in St. Cuthbert's Church, a large number being present. In the evening, a church parade of the Mounted Rifles was held,the service, which was conducted by the Bishop, being in honour of the accession to the l'hrone of King Edward. ■ At a special meeting of the County Council, on Saturday, a special order was made handing over to the Town Board control of all roads within the town area. The sports gathering, held yesterday, under the auspices of the combined Friendly Societies, was even a greater success than the meeting held last year, and reflected credit on the management. The results of the orincipal events are as follows:—Friendly Societies Handicap: E. L. Harvey, Mangatainoka, 1; H. Saunders, 2; La Roohe, 3. Half-mile Run: S. Keats, Pafaiatua, 1. Chop Handicap: C. Casey. Maiden Two-men Sawing: Sullivan and mate. Champion Chop: 0. Casey, 1; 0. Olsen, 2. Handicap Sawing: Watersonand mate. Forced Handicap: Barrett, j The gross takings in connection with the sporto was £Bl 12s lOd, At the Magistrate's Court, this afternoon. Mr P. M&dsen, Hastwell, was ordered to contribute 10s per week, towards the maintenance of his wife while divorce proceedings were pending. A case, in which a deal of evidence was taken, occupied the Court, this afternoon, when Mr B. Berg, claimed from Joseph Smith, the sum of £2O, in respect to the sale of a horse. From evidence taken, it would appear that Messrs Dalgety and Co. were instructed, through their agent, to sell a certain draught mare. The horse was offered and passed in at £27. Subsequently Smith had the horse on trial, and it was then that the agent disposed of the animal to Berg for £3O. On the same day, however, Smith's son went out to the owner, purchased the horse, and refused to give delivery. The Magistrate, not being satisfied as to the position in respect to the] trial given, reserved his judgment till next Court day.
