BAND SPORTS.

A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. That tbe Masterton MuniciDal Band's appeal for assistance in aid of the Nelson Contest funds is meeting with public support was evinced by the large crowd that was presoiit at their sports in the l : ark last evening. The sports commenced at (5.15 p.m., and at 6 30 o'clok there was a large crowd in attendance. The programme was an excellent one, and included foot races, bicycle races. Are brigade events and bowling at the wickets. In each event there were large fields, for the lat'er there being entries. Mr F. llunn acted as starter, and by keeDing everything up to time the programme was finished before "dark. Mr G. Groombridge gave an excellent display of slack wire walking, and a party of volunteers under Sergeant Morton gave a display of physical drill. The Band were in attendance throughout the whole programme, and after completion they entertained the crowd by rendering several selections in front of the grandstand. The takings at the gate amounted to £l6, and from the sale of tickets outside it another £ls will ba received. Following are the results of the sports:— 100 Yards Handicap, open.—First heat: B.
