Reoeived January 16, 12.34 a.m. ADELAIDE, January 15. The Rev. Dr. Fitohett, interviewed in regard to his visit to Britain, said he had been struck at the general prosperity. With regard to preference, England, apart from politicians, was waiting for the colonies to move. He does not think England would make up her mind in favour of Mr Chamberlain's scheme, till tbe colonies say that they want preference. England would accept that principle if her children across the seas de olared in favour of it. There was no telling when the day oame what form it would take. There is a growing interest in Australia as a place for settlement. DISGUSTED JAPAN CONSUL. Received January 16, 1.6 a.m. SYDNEY, January 15. Mr Parsons, £tbe Japanese Consul at Adelaide, who is visiting Sydney, complains bitterly that owing to the new Liquor Act he was unable to receive friends at his hotel on Sunday, and bad to entertain them when walking the streets and park. In the latter plaoe a constable debarred them from smoking. Another constable compelled the cab to walk because it was passing a church. Such pbarisaism would not make for the development of a robust nation. Under the circumstances be was not sorry to depart from the Queen City. Other visitors make similar compaints.
