THE PROPOSED COMMISSION. Reeived January 12, 72.27 a.m. LONDON, January 11. , Lord Rothschilds, leferriug to the suggestion that a Royal Commission be appoiouted to inquire into the working of tneLife Assurance Act of 1870, considered that such a Commission would be very daneeroua because the companies would "go like lambs *o be shorn.'.' An ambitious Chancellor oftbe Exchequer or a radical President of the Board of Trade, knowing they had large sums invested might order them to restore the British credit and give unlimited sums to municipalities v to spend. Twenty-six million people were interested in the prosperity of such companies, and a great many of tbeir securities were ,tbreatened. At the present momeafc the electors ought to remembar that their savings may be threatened by future legislation. He addaed the companies to meet add agree as to what alterations are desirable, and then to ask the Government to introduce a Bill.
