CZERNY.

♦ Czerny, the "prestidigitateur," appeared iu the Town Hall last evening before a large audience, and presented an entertainment full of mysticism and interest. Czerny, whose personality immediately wins over the sympathies of his audience, is a orisD, neat conjurer, and he has originality enough to serve up such boary tricks as the torn handkerchief, mystic star, rising card and disappearing die, in a guise calculated to deceive even their oldest frieuds. Further, he has a good repertoire of new deceits in the"conjuring line, and introduces several excellent illusions. His programme last night met with unstinted approval throughout. Czerny "dresses" his work splendidly, and the "set" in which he appears--Mephisto's Palace by the Pyramids —is a magnificent production, well calculated to heighten the effect of his little deceptions'. One is certainly prepared to accept any impossibility that might happen along after one gets used to a girl in a very un-ancient and bifurcated comic opera garb floating round an Egyptian palace in the days before Time had relieved the npbinx of its nose. Besides the "star" Miss Minnie Topping sang an illustrated song nicely, and some entertaining pictures were given by the cinematograph. The Company would certainly have done good business had their season extended till to-night, even if only by reason of that legion who would have gone to convince themselves beyond all doubt that they really do know just "how it's.done." The Company wero to have appeared at Hastings to-night, but because of the great amount of impedimenta they carry they find it impossible to get things iu readiness in time. They will, therefore, go on to iNapier and play there to-mor-row uighi, paying a visit to Hastings subsequently.
