Dr Smutz, representing the Transvaal Het Volk, is to visit England with the object of securing the elimination from the Constitution of the principle of one vote one value. IN THE GRIP OP THE MINEOWNERS. SYDNEY, January 9. Mr W. Gordon Hutchison, son of Mr George, Hutchison, formerly M.H.R. for Patea, New Zealand, has arrived here from South Africa by the steamer Somerset, en route for New Zealand. He states that South Africa holds no immediate prospects for Australians. The country is in the grip of the mine-owners, business is stagnant, and things about as bad as they can be. He strongly against Chinese importations. Mr Hutchison, senr., is winding up his affairs preparatory to returning to New Zealand.
