THE YOUNG MAORI PARTY.
A series of motions affecting the welfare of the native race was passed at a meeting of the Yo;ing Maori Party, hold at Rotorua under the anspions of the To Auto Students' Association. Among the most important was one emphasising the ueod for the appointment of nurses in Maori , villages, and in pursuance of a paper on the scarcity of Maori literature, a resolution was passed to the effect that translations of suitable works was an argent want. A recommendation by Mr Thornton, that natives be givon a vote ou the liquor question, was pnssud. A paper by Mr GhattertDn dealt with kindergarten work among tho Maoris and subsequently it was resolved to have the papor printed in Maori and circulated. Mr A. T. Ngata explained the new Maori Land Act, and advised the natives to attend to the agricultural development of their laud. Tho aboliton of billiard saloons in Maori kaingas was referred to tho Native Councils, and as the result of a report from the Gisborno branch it was resolved (o form a branch of the associate «;i at Rotorua at the conclusion of tho conference. Papers on farming led to the resolution, "That tho time had eomo for tho establishment, of an experimental farm at which Maoris could be trained in the various departments of farm work." Resolutions were also passed in favour of tho founding of a school for native carving, and that Maoris should not be chaged for fishing licenses as the imported trout had killed tho native fish.
