The South African cricket team beat Warner's Eleven in the first test match by one wicket. CANTERBURY v. AUCKLAND. OHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 5. The crioke* - match Canterbury v. Auckland commenced this afternoon in fine weather. Canterbury won the toss and sent Auckland in. When stumps were drawn the visitors had made 197 for seven wickets (Lusk 19, Hemus 83, BrooJi-Smith 35, Qliffls, Sterason (not out) 16, Hussey (not out) 14). Bennett took three wicketa. The services of Callaway were much missed by the local team.
