COUNTY COUNCILS.
CASTLEPOINT. A special meeting of the Council was held on Saturday last, all the members being present. It was decided to adjourn the meeting for two hours, so that members could attend the funeral of tha late Mrs 1. Munro. The Masterton County Clerk wrote asking what steps had been taken to obtain the consent of ratepayers to raising a loan for bridges at Mel-drum.-—The Clerk was directed toreply and state that the ratopayers bad not taken the initial steps towards raising the loan in question, and until they did this the Council could not move in the matter. Mr A. A. Cameron applied for permission to remove the feuee from tbe junction at Mr T. F. Smith's cn to the road as far as the small bridge at the foot and the Little Saddle.—The Clark was directed to inform Mr Cameron that he would remove the fence up to the road boundary, but they could not grant permission to erect the fence on the road-line. The Department of Roads sent authority to expend the following crants:— Masterton-Tinui Road, £100; Uriti Langdale Road, £IOO, and stating that the unexpended grants from last year had been renewed. It was deoided to complete the formation on the Uriti-Langdale Road by day labour,, and that tenders be called for metalling as soon as possible. The manager at Bushgrove applied for permission to erect a fence and attach it to the bridge at Whakaroro and erect a floodgate and attach it to the bridce also.—lt waa decided to grant permission to erect a fence and floodgate as requested, with the understanding that they must be removed if they are found to be objectionable. The Minister of Labour sent a circular requesting that the Council decide at a special meeting the working day in the week for closing shops at 1 o'clock. The Colonial Secretary advised that the alteration of County boundaries had been made by Order-in-Coancil in terms of applicatioin. It wqs agreed to make a Special Order altering the number of ridings in the County, and constitute the properties transferred from the Akitio County into a new riding, to be called the Mataiko Riding. ( The Clerk was authorised to arrange for the purchase of a few cres of land for a roadman's cottage, and paddock in Mangapakeha, and have Cox's cottage repaired so that it can be used by a roadman. Cr Bennett asked for permission to take up the small bridge leading into his property, and put down new stringers, as the old stringers appeared to be decayed.— It was agreed to allow the Councillor to make the improvements to the bridge under the Road Overseer's supervision. The Treasurer reported a credit balance of £320 17s, and accounts were passed for payment amounting I to £3Ol Is 4d.
