SILVERSTREAM SUNDAY SCHOOL.
On Saturday last the seventeenth anniversary of the above school was celebrated. The scholars enjoyed an attractive tea, which they sat down to at 5.30 p.m. Until the public meeting- of parents and friends at 7 p.m. games were played. In the absence of Rev. G. W. Hunt, through illness, the superintendent, Mr. A. P. Godber, presided. In his address the chairman stressed the value of Bible reading in the home and quoted Lord Bledisloe's remark, "That a Bible in the Home League was of more importance than a Bible in the Schools' League." He asked parents to see that the daily Bible readings were read regularly. Musical and elocutionary items were given by the scholars, and a reading at sight competition was held between the boys and girls, the verdict going to the girls.
The annual report, read by the secretary, Mr. F. A. Goodland, showed a decrease in scholars of one. Interest was maintained in Maori mission work during the year. Master Fred Stringer read the balance-sheet, which showed a credit balance sufficient to pay all current accounts.
Prizes for diligence and attendance were presented by Mrs. Eckersley to the following:— Frances McKay Campbell first, Joan Orr, John Wilkes, Margaret Stringer, Cecil Orr and Fred Stringer. Seven prizes were presented to the primary class.
A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to all who had helped to make the evening such a pleasant one. The meeting closed with the Benediction.
