UPPER HUTT BRANCH LABOUR PARTY.
The Upper Hutt Branch of the Labour Party held their monthly meeting- on Friday evening last, there being- a large number present. The vice-president, Mr. F. Whiteman, presided and apologised for the nonattendance of the president. The secretary, Mr. O. Plummer, reported that the campaign for new members was turning- out very satisfactory, and quite a large number was approved at the meeting. It was decided to inform the residents of the district that the council intend placing the rubbish removal on to them which would mean an increase in rates, and advise them to vote against it. It was agreed that the social committee g-o into the matter of some form of" entertainment, such as a small social after the meeting's or a dance. The idea being to make the meetings more attractive to the members. The vice-president gave a resume of the recent conference held in "Wellington, and spoke of the enthusiasm prevailing among- the delegates from all over New Zealand. It was agreed to discuss the remits at the next meeting, when the president will be present.
