CRICKET NOTES.

COMMENTS. Last Saturday undoubtedly produced a record number of thrilling finishes. In two out of the four games victory was only attained in the last over of the day, whilst in the third game a wonderful piece of fielding, ending in a brilliant "run out," gave a first innings win to XJpper Hutt. St. Josephs scored a sensational 8point win over Ordnance. Allen (St. Josephs) once more proved his worth as an all-rounder with 69 and 6 wickets for 23. Dudding (Ordnance) played a most gallant knock for his side, and Lake bowled magnificently in taking 8 wickets for 24. Brightest cricket was seen when St. Josephs succeeded in knocking up their 23 to win with only 9 minutes to get them. What should have been an interesting game between Depot A and Methodist . was spoilt by being played on a wicket which was an insult to senior players and certainly no credit to any groundsman. No. 4 was also in a bad way. Cricketers in Upper Hutt are longsuffering in the matter of poor pitches allotted them and it is high time the league took steps to remedy matters. Better accommodation could be found on many cow paddocks than players receive on Nos. 4 and 5 grounds at the Park. Colts had an eight pointer over Trentham, whose fielding was very poor. Colts required 45 runs in their second strike for an outright win and Trentham sportingly waived their right to the 10 minutes' interval, thus allowing 18 minutes for Colts to give it a go. Assisted by Trentham's weak fielding the boys managed the job on call of time for the loss of two wickets. Skerton (75) and Auckram (29) scored best for Colts, and for Trentham, N. Grigg (51), Christensen 30), and Beach (22) were the highest scorers. Results of XJpper Hutt v. Depot B: UPPER HUTT. D. Bucknell, c , b O'Neill . . 6 C. Murray, c , b O'Neill .... 42 X).
