POSSIBILITIES OF EXPORT TRADE.
DEPUTATION TO MR MASSEY. \VEi/LIJSGTOi\, August- 20. A deputation representing the poultry industry 0 f iNew Zealand, horn as far Aoith as Auckland and as far south as Dunedin, Waited on the Prime Minister 10-dnv to urge i ueouragement yf the poultry export trade. It was represented by the deputation that, there was a imarnet for eggs in Honolelu and \ ancouicr, and that it was the duty of the government to encourage the opuuiiig up of such murkets. The Government should make it compulsory that all presorted eggs should be brand, a una sold as such. More use shonl.l i .M.ie nt the experimental farms m connection with the poultry industry, inure was great need for the dissemination of knowledge concerning poultry raising. Mr Jehu Studholm (Canterbury | asked that the Government should make persistent a ud constant endeavours to encourage the industry, because it could be made one of the greatest adjuncts of the small or allotment farmer.
In reply, Mr Massey said the Liovernment would do everything it possibly could to assist the export trade He would instruct the department to make the necessary inquiri. s. He agreed that there were possibilities ( ,t trade with \ aucouver, and the Governmint might go the of assisting in a trial shipment. As far as stamping eggs was concerned, it would be necessary to pas:- legislation before that could be don'-. The expenditure on the poultry farms had been very great; in fact, it had rather staggered him. Before tho Government could do any more it would be necessary to go very carefully into the matter.
