FOOTBALL.

STAB v. JUBILEE. The second flag fixture Ibetween the above teams was played on Glasgow 'Bark, Lawrence, on Saturday afternoon. The weather *was aill that could be. desired, but the ground was in a very sloppy condition. In the previous match between those teams Jubilee had rather an easy win and more than usual interest was manifested in Saturday's match a 3 to was understood that the looal team had been actively training with a view to if possible turning the tables on their opponents. Tho attendance of spectators was {therefore large, the womenfolk being exceptionally well represented, a nd f'he gtarne was followed with keen interest from the kickoff to the sounding of the whistle at tho conclusion. Star won the toss and played to the eastern goal, thus escaping tho sun in their eyes. Owing to the sloppy condition of the ground and the greasy state of the ball the game resolved itself into a forward struggle. In tho first spell Star had distinctly the best of tho gtme and on several occasions had their opponents on the defence, but failed to press homo their advantage. Tho Jubilee back division, whioh was a strong combination, got no chance to get away owing to the fast following up. and determined dribbling rushes of the Star forwards. Near the conclusion of the spell Star was pressed fairly hard but a force brought relief and the whistle sounded for halftime without score <,n either side.

Shortly after the opening of tho second spell a good dribbling rush from the centre of the field carried the ball to the Jubilee line where W. Christie smartly picked up and carried it over. Aitkcn took the kick which just missed going between the uprights hy a few inches. Star 3, Jubilee nil. Play livened up after the reverso but Star continued, to hold Iheii own, and shortly afterwards again had Jubilee cm the defence but failed to score. A free kick from a good position having failed to add to Star's score the. play was carried into Star's territory by a very smart, run 'by Mumford, Jubilee's centre threequarters, and for a time Star had an anxious time. A free kick or an infringement brought relief and up ami down the field play followed for some time, and when tho whistle sounded the play was at midlicld. The game was about as strenuous a one as we have seen played on this ground, but it is pleasing to say that throughout there was an en tiro absence of anything in the nature oi roughness. For Star Swan at half-back played an exceptionally lino game, the plucky way in which he stopped many dangerous rusk's, saving his side times out of numl>cr. Jerrod, a young player in the back division also played a very conspicuous game. Aitkcn at full back was a tower of strength to the winners, his certainty in fielding the ball and sureness in finding' tho line helping his side wry considerably throughout the givn.v, Glen and Rough an, three-vq[uarters, nlsr. played well, tho latter particularly st-. The forwards all played* a hard game, Tyler and W. Christie being probably the most prominent. The. Jubilee backs. n s we have previously said, wero a strong combination and in their efforts to make the game an open one gave some very fair exhibition of passing. Do Berry, Mumford, and F. Sutherland each played conspicuously, and it was only through the fast following up and fjord collaring of their opponents that their side failed to give a better account of itself. R. Sutherland proved an excellent half and among the forwaixls Bcyse and McNcilly wero the most conspicuous though all played well. Mr G. Smith was referee and his control of tho game was certainly quite impartial.
