From Palmer land Son, explaining error in-forwarding 'two trucks of liji'n metal in plaoe of 2>)[in.—Received. From Daniel Stevenson!, asking that some attention ibe given to that portion of Oban street between McCutcheon's and his property.—(Referred to Public Works Committee.

From Alex. CamrJbell drawing attention t° e filthy condition of the footpath in Kilmarnock otreet, also asking that some attention be given to water channel.—To be informed that matter of drainago had been attended to.

From Francis Moyle askiog for a rebate of rates on his property at foot f f Peel Street on the ground that he had to remove the building and would not .-have the new building completed before February or March of next year.—To be considered at end of September. From the Valuer-general 1 forwarding form of declaration for subsidy on rates.—'Reoeived.

Tho formal motion authorising the Borough to borrow from the Bank of New Zealand by way of overdraft during the current year was passed. Tho clerk reported that 65 dogs Had bean registered this year as against 82 last year. On tho motion of Crs. Mcintosh and Varcoe the clerk was instructed to convey to the Hon. Jnmies Allen, M.P., the Council's congratulations on his elevation to Cabinet rank.

Tho .question of consolidating the newly laid metal in Ross Place by means of a traction ewrin-o was brought forward by Cr. Mcintosh, and after some discussion the Works Committee was authorised to ascertain tho cost of this work and report at next meeting. Cr. Winn brought forward the question of laying down a couple of trucks of metal screenings ' for the various crossings in 'Ross 'Place. There was a marked divisioij of opinion as to the necessity of these in the mcuntime, but ovontually it was resolved on the motion of Crs. Arthur and Winn that two trucks of screening.; be l obtained for this purpose when the metalling 0 f the street- was completed.
