OTAGO LAND BOARD.
The following business of local interest was transacted at Wednesday's meeting of of the Otago Land Board :—: — ' The Warden forwarded report on two applications by Rose Gunn for the purchase of small areas in block 4,- Tuapeka East District. — Granted, subject to survey per area recommended by warden at £2 5s per acre. Michael Hoare applied for two areas of land in block 20, Tuapeka Bast District, under yearly license. — Granted. To be added to present license. Edward Tubruan applied for permission to cultivate and sow in grass a portion of Ettrick Domain (held under pastoral license 1248).— Referred to ranger for report Application was made by Michael Crowley to purchase an area in block 4, Waipori (sections 91 and 92). — Refused on account' of warden's objections. Applicant to be asked if he would accept occupation lease. Jabez Burton, on behalf of William Gibsod, applied for an- occupation lease in block 4, Benger District. Area 3 acres. Application 5206,— Ranger to report.
Out of a flock of 5000 sheep travelling to Rocfcley (N.S.W.) lightning killed 340. [ Qn Sunday Bourke topped bbc heat re- ~ cords, registering 103deg in the shade. A Christchurch message states that Patrick and John Gallagher have been arrested On a charge of aiding their brother James to escape from the Kaiapoi lock-up on Thursday night. All three defendants stand remanded till Friday next,
