WAIPORI NOTES.

(Own Correspondent.) The great question puzzling the minds of many in this district is : " When the dredges are worked out what will become ot Waipori?" The whole affair appears very serious indeed, but there is one, Mr J. T. Johnston, who is rapidly endeavoring to clear up the mystery. It is surmised that the Deep Lead that exists here is of a very rich nature, but not" one save the above-mentioned gentleman, has made a move in the matter. He started sinking for the deep bottom this week, endeavoring to solve the problem. We trust that his efforts will not prove fruitless, and that a good return will be the result of his labors. Provided this be so, it will add considerably to the mining life of Waipori, and anyone possessing a water-race commanding the Flat will benefit by the increased value of the water. It is the intention to hold athletic sports instead of horse races here this year.' Programmes have been issued to that effect, and, judging by their appearance, a good display is to be anticipated.
