LAWRENCE HIGH SCHOOL. COMMITTEE.

The monthly meeting of the above committee was held last evening. Present —Messrs M'lntosh (chairman), Arbuokle, Uren, Walker, Haggitt, Blair, -Nome, and Jeffery (seoretary). The following correspondenoel was read " from tbe Education Board : IntimatiDg that the sum of £7 9s 8d (cost of repairs to school and tpacher's residence) had been remitted to committee's credit. — Circular setting out the allowances to school committees for incidental expenses. (This shows an increase of £6 over the amount paid in previous years.) Notifying the annual meeting of the Otago Educational Institute during Coronation week, and suggesting that school committees should fix their mid-winter holidays for that week to enable teaohers^to attend the meet* ings.— Beceived. It was decided to olose the school from June 20th to June 30th in honor of the Coronation. The Bector reported that the attendance for the month ending June 6 had been 249.3, the average roll number being 291.25 ; the highest attendance on any one day had been 262. • Tbe following accounts were passed for > payment : J. C. Arbuckle, £1 7s ;A. Mitchell, 15-i ; J. Ponsonby, 11s ; Borough Council, £1 10a ; Mrs Oliver, £1 133 4d ; T. Wilkins, £3 7s 91 The Visiting Committee reported that they had authorised the cutting of some drains and the trimming of the hedge around the school fence, and these works had been carried out satisfactorily. The Chairman mentioned that the children had that afternoon planted an oak in commemoration of the declaration of peace, and that it was intended to plant another one in honor of the Coronation. The Secretary *as instructed to write the Education Board asking whether it was the intention of the Government to have a medal struck commemorating the declaration of peace.
