LAWRENCE DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL.

The monthly meeting of the committee of the above school was held in the Borough Connoll Chamber* last evening. Present : Messrs D. M'lntosh (chairman), Thompson, Uren, Walker, Norrie, and Jeffery (secretary). The Bector was, by request, also present. Ths Secretary Education Board notified • that the sum of £11 sd, hat quarter's allowance, had been paid to the credit of the oommittee.—Received. The Seoretary for the Board wrote notifying the appointment of Miss Hay as tern- ' porary assistant (or one year at a salary of £60.— Reoeived. -The Rector wrote recommending the purchase of the organ at present in the Church of England schoolroom which had been plaoed under offer to the oommittee at £14. In regard to the purchase of a typewriter he sag- ■: gested that the selection of this might be left in the hands of Mr Norrie. -Both recommendations were unanimously agreed to: A letter was also read from Mr Stenbouse to the effect that Mr J. Colon, who was a teehnieal instructor under the Education Department, was prepared to conduct, a class for laundry work daring the first quarter of the year and suggested tbat the neoessary application be made to the Board.— Resolved that the necessary application be made and also that a nominal charge of Is per head be made to each pupil to oover cost of fuel, etc. The Chairman reported that the Board's Inspector of Works had paid a visit to the Eohool and Rector's residence and the necessary repairs had been pointed out to him. He suggested that a written application be now made for thes».— Left in the hands of . the Ohairman and Seoretary to attend to. The Seoretary reported that the gross takings from the concert amounted to £40 ss, and the expenses £3 4s 6d.— This was considered eminently satisfactory, but as the whole of the proceeds would be absorbed in the purchase of an organ and typewriter, leaving the oommittee atill somewhat in arrears, it was resolved that the concert be repeated at the reopening of the school, the charge to be Is all over. It was unanimously resolved that the seoretary convey the thank-t of the oommittee to Miss D. Jeffery and Mr T. M'Donald for the assistance rendered by them in oonneotion with the recent oonoert. It was also resolved that a vote of thanks be oonveyed (by advt.) to the parents and others for their very liberal donations towards the prize-list. The following accounts were passed for payment:— Mrs Oliver, £1 13s 4d ; Town Hall and piano, £1 123 6d ; Tuapeka Timbs, £2 9a.
