WAIPORI SPORTS AND RACES.

The annual raoes oarried oat by the Waipori Sports Committee were held on the old coarse, near the township,, on >ew Year's Day. The day was very fine, and the attendance good, a large number coming from surrounding districts. The course was the only bad feature of the meeting ; but it is probable that next year a new and muoh better course on tbe flat above Waipori will be raced upon. This will be a great improvement, and will no doubt increase the number of entries in the races. If the Club charged the nimble "bob" admission at the gate they would be able to considerably increase the stakes, and this also would bring larger fields together. The racing was very good, and some surprises were sprang upoa the pnblic and owners by horses which were not supposed to have a chance. The handicapping gave much satisfaction and helped to make the events interesting. The footracing was good and the finishes very close Taken as a whole, tho meeting was very BUOOBSSfnIf aud, with a better course, will be more so next year. Mr J. Houlihan, Evans Flat, had a publican's booth on the ground, and did a pood business, but the duties of Constable Taylor were very much of a sinecure. Mr B. J.
