Out of 107,425 white refugees in the refuge camps in the month of August 1,878 died, including 510 children, out of a total of 22,036 children in the Orange River Colony. A train was accidently derailed at Standerton. Six Dragoon Guards were killed and 36 injured. September 28. ! The following honors, dated November 29, 1900, have been conferred on New Zealanders : — Distinguished conduct medal, G-. Helmes, bearer ; Royal Red Croas, Sister Williamson. Many Aubiralians have received similar honors. Major Earnes, of the New South Wales Medical Corps, has been created a Companion of the Bath. Thoae Boers to be permanently ban- | iahed in accordance with Lord Kitobener's proclamation are Botha, the late Landdrost at Pretoria, Field cornets Botha, Hugo, Meuwhinat, Dupleßais, Captains Olliver, Coetz^, Cooe, Kruger, and Adjutant Vandelliode. Details cf the Vlakfontein incident ahow that the Bri'ish intended to capture 60 roving Boers. The gnns opened fire at 200 yards. The Boers, surrounding the British, enciroled them with * brisk rifle fire. The breech-block of one gun, with the belongings of both, were destroyed, and the breech-block of the second gun burned before the British surrendered. Colonel K>kewicli, the defender of Kimberley, while north-west of Huston burg, captured 35 Boers, 60 horses, 30 rifles, and five waggons full of clothing. Lord Kitchener reports that Lieutenant Miners, of the Somerset Light Infantry attached to the constabulary at Riversdaal went out on the 25th to meet three Boers approaching under a white flag, who, after a short conversation, were seen to shoot Lieutenant Miners dead and galiop away. Tbe enemy in force, under General Botha, attacked the forts at Italia Prospect, on the Zululand border, on the 26th, the garrison gallantly repelling , them and inflicting heavy loss. Reuter's message states that the garrison lost one killed and nine wounded.
