TUAPEKA AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY.
A meeting of members of the abovenamed body was held in the Borough Council Chambers on Thursday afternoon for the purpose of hearing the report of Mr R. Wood on the draught stallions (under offer to the Society) that he had examined and to make a selection in accordance therewith. There was a pood attendance of members, Mr Jas. Roberbson (President) ia the chair, Mr Wood gave a detailed account of bis examination of tbe various horses and stated that the horse he would recommend the Society to bring into the district (subject, of course, to a veterinary certificate of soundness) was a dark brown stallion, the property of Mr Johu Grant, of Lin wood (Wallace town). This animal was a recent importation from Australia and would give them a complete change of blood, hie had not seen the owner and, ot course, could not state the terms that would be asked by Mr Grant. , The Secretary read a letter from Mr Grant expressing his willingness to come to an arrangement with the Society, but the terms were nob enclosed.
It was resolved that if Mr Grant accept the Society's terms his horse be procured for the season and, failing this, tbafc Mr Rennie be communicated with with the object of securing New Hope for the season, and the President, vicePresident, and Messrs Wood, Potts, and Walker be appointed a committee with power to act.
A sum of £5 5s was voted to Mr Wood towards defraying his expenses in connection with bis trip of examination, and the thanks of the Society was ordered to be conveyed to those horseowners who had placed their horses under offer to the Society for the hospitality they had extended to the Society's represen tativea. The meeting then adjourned.
